Flashpoint arrives March 31, and it brings an unexpected guest list

Arc Raiders' free Flashpoint update is set to land on March 31. Embark says it will add a new map condition, a new arc threat, a player project, and a Scrappy update. But the latest tease focused on something simpler and louder: Shredders leaving Stella Montis.

Shredders on the move

Embark posted a short teaser showing Shredders slipping out of Stella Montis. The studio framed it as a reminder to "check your corners," and that the Flashpoint update is coming next week. It is not a huge surprise. The dev team has been hinting for a while that Shredders would be used to increase PvE pressure, and design lead Virgil Watkins even said the machines would eventually escape their original map: "They'll figure out how to get out of there eventually."

Why players are annoyed

Many players do not seem thrilled. The complaint is not just that Shredders are maddening to fight in tight hallways. The main gripe is that moving the Shredder to another map feels like a minimal change being billed as a bigger update. One player summed it up bluntly: "Shredders are the new Arc aren't they". Another said they would keep doing current activities until Embark delivered more substantial new content.

Context: Embark's recent updates

Embark has been steadily adding and changing things so far. Past updates introduced hurricane weather, matchmaking changes, new projects and decks, and balance tweaks that adjusted enemies and player tools. Those patches and additions kept the game evolving, which is why some players are disappointed that this Flashpoint tease looks smaller by comparison.

Other issues still lurking

Arc Raiders is not without problems. Cheating remains a notable concern despite the studio's efforts to combat it. For players who mostly hop in for a few rounds with friends, the game still works fine. For hardcore players who log many hours, simple moves like relocating an enemy can feel inadequate.

What comes next

There are still a few days before the Flashpoint update arrives, so Embark could still reveal more. If Flashpoint does not include a larger arc, the next major content drop is Riven Tides, scheduled for next month, which is expected to introduce a new map, a large arc enemy, and another map condition.

Short version: Flashpoint will arrive on March 31 and teases Shredders leaving Stella Montis. Players worry this is a small change being promoted as a major new arc, and reactions range from annoyed to resigned. More substantial content may arrive with Riven Tides next month.
