Bookings open for the ecobonus on light motorcycles and mopeds
Good news for anyone thinking about an electric or hybrid two-wheeler: the ecobonus program for new light motorcycles and mopeds is now accepting reservations. The Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy (MIMIT) says the incentive targets buyers of brand-new electric or hybrid vehicles in categories L1e through L7e.
How the contribution works
- Without scrappage: the incentive covers 30 percent of the purchase price, up to a maximum of €3,000.
- With scrappage: the incentive covers 40 percent of the purchase price, up to a maximum of €4,000.
This applies to new vehicles that fall into the L1e, L2e, L3e, L4e, L5e, L6e and L7e categories.
When dealers can reserve the incentives
Dealers will be able to make reservations through the dedicated portal starting at 12:00 on Wednesday, 18 March 2026. If you plan to buy, check with your dealer about the reservation process and timing.
Where the money comes from
The funding for this ecobonus was set out in the 2021 budget law. Total funds amount to €150 million, broken down as follows:
- €20 million per year for 2021 to 2023
- €30 million per year for 2024 to 2026
That is the financial framework supporting these incentives. If you are shopping for a new electric or hybrid two-wheeler, this scheme can significantly reduce the purchase price, especially if you are scrapping an old vehicle.
