Elijah Wood has been quiet about returning to Middle-earth, but he just admitted something fans have probably imagined while rewatching the trilogy: Frodo could use more action. The actor has spoken about the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum and said he would like to see his Hobbit get involved in a proper fight scene.

Not official yet, but the cast feels reunited

Wood told a major newspaper that nothing is officially announced on his end, though Ian McKellen has largely hinted at Frodo's involvement. Wood said he is excited about the idea and that there is a real feeling of getting the original group back together.

Frodo in a skirmish? Yes please

When asked what he would like to see Frodo do in The Hunt for Gollum, Wood was blunt and amusingly practical. "He doesn't get up to much fighting," he said. "So it would be quite fun to see Frodo involved in some kind of skirmish. I don't know where that would happen there's a little bit on Weathertop, but he really loses that very quickly, so maybe something like that. A little fight could be cool!"

The Hobbits are still tight

Wood also spoke warmly about his fellow Hobbits. He said he and Sean Astin, Dominic Monaghan, and Billy Boyd remain close. "We love seeing each other," he said. "We are family. Nothing has changed our dynamics are the same as they've ever been, and we love just being around each other."

He added that the four of them keep a group message and text nearly every day. They share everything from mini-crossword scores to what they plan to eat. In other words, the Hobbits have moved on from epic quests to epic group chats.

Wood is currently promoting his new film Ready or Not 2, which opens on March 20, 2026. The Hunt for Gollum is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027. More interviews and behind the scenes chatter will be shared on entertainment channels and outlets that cover film and TV.
