Mazzi takes over the Tourism portfolio
President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella received Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Quirinale on Tuesday and, on her proposal, signed the decree appointing Gianmarco Mazzi as Italy’s new Minister of Tourism.
Mazzi had already been serving as Undersecretary for Culture. With his appointment, Meloni steps down from the interim tourism portfolio she had been holding herself. Because apparently even temporary cabinet duties eventually need a proper ending.
The oath at the Quirinale
Soon after the appointment, the new minister took the oath before Mattarella.
The ceremony was witnessed by:
- Ugo Zampetti, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic
- General Gianni Candotti, Military Adviser to the President of the Republic
Also present were Prime Minister Meloni and Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano.
Mazzi’s remarks
After the ceremony, Mazzi said:
"Tourism is a world rich in charm and in highly skilled professionals, and it requires careful attention because it is one of the pillars of the Italian economy. I am honored by this appointment and thank the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister for the trust they have placed in me."
