Mimikyu’s brief moment in the spotlight
Pokémon Go keeps adding fresh content, and this time the game has finally let Mimikyu out of whatever storage closet it has been occupying. The catch, naturally, is that it is only around for a limited time. Because apparently even the Disguise Pokémon understands the value of a tight schedule.
When Mimikyu appears
Mimikyu is available in Pokémon Go on April Fool’s Day 2026, from 12 am to 11:59 pm local time worldwide.
That means players can find it throughout the day, but there is a better window if you want to improve your odds. According to the reliable Silph Road, Mimikyu will have a higher spawn rate between 6 pm and 7 pm local time.
That boosted hour lines up with Pikachu’s Spotlight Hour, which feels like exactly the sort of thing Mimikyu would try to hijack. Subtlety has never really been the point.
What happens after April 1
There is another way to get Mimikyu after April Fool’s Day, although it is still time-limited.
If you reach Rank 30 in the A Shocking Good Time Go Pass, you unlock an encounter with Mimikyu. The catch is that you need to hit that rank by Monday, April 6, at 8 pm local time, which is also when the pass expires.
Miss that deadline and the reward disappears. Game mechanics, as ever, remain deeply committed to being inconvenient on purpose.
Will Mimikyu return later?
Mimikyu is expected to show up in Pokémon Go again in the future, but there are no confirmed details yet about when that will happen. For now, the Pokémon seems likely to remain a special-event appearance, at least initially.
So if you want one, the advice is simple: do not wait around and assume it will be back tomorrow. Pokémon Go has a long history of making that kind of optimism look silly.
