Two people have been charged after an alleged attempt to enter HM Naval Base Clyde, the Royal Navy facility commonly called Faslane that houses the United Kingdom's Trident submarines.

Who was charged

Police Scotland confirmed a 34-year-old Iranian man and a 31-year-old Romanian woman were arrested and have been charged in connection with the incident. Both were due to appear at Dumbarton sheriff court on Monday and inquiries are ongoing.

When and where

The police said they were alerted to the incident at around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March 2026. The location is the base at Faslane on Scotland’s west coast, which is central to the UK submarine fleet and the nation’s Trident nuclear deterrent.

Official lines

  • Police Scotland said the pair were arrested and charged and that further inquiries continue.
  • The Royal Navy said two people tried, without success, to enter the base.

What this means

The incident prompted an immediate response from security at the base. Faslane is a highly protected military site because it hosts the UK’s ballistic missile submarines. Details about the motivations behind the attempt have not been released.

Police inquiries remain active and more information may follow as the case progresses through the courts.
