Jack Black has already picked his next videogame movie wish list item
After appearing in Minecraft and Super Mario Galaxy, Jack Black is apparently not done working his way through the game-adaptation aisle. While speaking with ScreenRant to promote Super Mario Galaxy, where he voices Bowser, Black said he would be open to moving from Nintendo territory to Sega if another live-action Yakuza movie ever comes together.
His pitch was delightfully on-brand. Black said he would be willing to play a "portly American" in the series and added, "Sega, give me a jingle." Hollywood casting notes do not get much more straightforward than that.
Why Yakuza is not a totally wild ask
The Yakuza series is set mostly in Japan, but American characters do show up from time to time, and they are not always handled with subtlety. More often than not, they are part of the franchise's comic, exaggerated side.
There is also a small geographic wrinkle. The last two Yakuza games were set in the United States, specifically Hawaii, which gives Black's idea at least a little bit of practical footing. Not a lot, but enough for a movie pitch, which is more than many of these things have.
Sega may not be in a hurry, though. Amazon's Yakuza TV adaptation was broadly viewed as a dud, so another live-action attempt could take a while to surface. Even so, Black has clearly found himself in the videogame-movie lane lately, and he does not seem eager to leave it.
