Kennedy Chandler returns to the NBA on a 10-day deal
Kennedy Chandler, the one-season Tennessee guard who helped the Volunteers win the 2022 SEC Tournament, is headed back to the NBA. According to ESPN insider Shams Charania and his agent Ryan Davis, Chandler has signed a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz. The move was announced on March 20, 2026.
Chandler made a strong impression in Knoxville during the 2021-22 season. He played a major role in Tennessee's run to the SEC Tournament title and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. He also earned second-team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman team honors that year.
His pro journey has had some twists. Chandler was selected with the 38th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and was then traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He appeared in 36 games off the bench in the 2022-23 season before being waived.
Chandler spent the following three seasons in the NBA G League, most recently suiting up for the Delaware Blue Coats. This season has been his best statistically. He averaged 20.4 points per game and 9.6 assists per game, and his assist average led the entire G League.
Why the Jazz are giving him a look
- Playmaking - Chandler led the G League in assists, which is a clear signal he can run an offense at a high level.
- Scoring upside - Averaging over 20 points a game shows he can create offense for himself as well as others.
- Short-term opportunity - A 10-day deal is a brief audition. If he performs, it could turn into more time in the NBA.
This signing is a second chance for Chandler to stick in the league after his rookie season in Memphis. The Jazz are bringing in a proven G League playmaker and giving him a window to show he can translate that production to the NBA level.
Expect him to be evaluated on ball distribution, decision making, and how well his scoring translates against NBA competition. The next 10 days will tell whether this is a temporary roster patch or the start of a longer stay.
