Who is filming and where
Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal are set to begin production on Honeymoon With Harry in Queensland, Australia, with shooting scheduled to start in April around Brisbane and the Whitsundays.
The creative team
The film is an Amazon MGM Studios feature based on a novel by Bart Baker. It will be directed by the team of Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, with a screenplay by Dan Fogelman. The three previously worked together on projects including Paradise, Crazy, Stupid, Love and the series This Is Us. Actress Sarah Pidgeon is in talks to join the cast.
What the story is about
Honeymoon With Harry is described as an emotional dramedy. Jake Gyllenhaal plays a free-spirited, impulsive man whose honeymoon plans fall apart, leaving him stuck on an island getaway with his fiance's guarded and difficult father, played by Kevin Costner. The setup starts as a clash of personalities and then moves toward an unexpected connection between the two men.
Why Queensland
The directors praised Queensland's versatility, saying the region can stand in for Chicago, the Caribbean, and places in between, all within a day's travel. Production leaders highlighted the strong local crew and favorable weather.
Producer Mike Karz pointed to Queensland's varied locations and natural beauty as a great match for the film, and said the team is enjoying collaborating with local creatives and crew.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney framed the shoot as part of a continuing partnership with Amazon MGM, noting the state's screen industry offers experienced workers and competitive incentives that support location shoots and infrastructure needs.
Local impact
Queensland officials estimate the production will add about AUD 51 million, roughly US 35.6 million, to the local economy and create around 215 jobs. The arts minister pointed out that benefits extend beyond film crews to sectors such as construction, catering, transport, and accommodation.
Production and backing
Honeymoon With Harry is produced by Mike Karz for Gulfstream Pictures, with Jennifer Salke producing under Sullivan Street Productions. Dan Fogelman also serves as a producer. The film has support from the Australian Government through the Location Offset and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland's Production Attraction Strategy.
One of several Amazon MGM projects in Queensland
The new shoot joins other Amazon MGM titles made in Queensland, including Balls Up, The Bluff, Subversion, Voltron, and an untitled project by Mike Thornton.
