Bezzecchi in control from start to finish
Marco Bezzecchi made it clear he came to Brazil to collect another trophy. The Italian started second on the grid, took the lead early and never surrendered it, claiming victory at the Brazilian MotoGP in Goiania. It was his fourth straight win and his second win of the year after the Thailand Grand Prix.
Aprilia secured a 1-2 finish as teammate Jorge Martin followed Bezzecchi home. Fabio Di Giannantonio, riding for the VR46 squad, fought off defending champion Marc Marquez to take third, with Marquez finishing fourth.
How he turned the weekend around
Bezzecchi admitted the weekend began badly after a rain-hit practice session on Friday. He said motivation was hard to keep high, but the team worked on the bike and he made small changes to his riding. Those tweaks paid off and he felt stronger by race day.
After the win, Bezzecchi moved ahead in the championship standings, leading by 11 points over Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin.
He dedicated the victory to his friend Roberto Lunadei, a 42-year-old mechanic who died in a road traffic accident the previous week.
Track issues and race changes
Race officials shortened the main race from 31 laps to 23 laps because of track degradation and very high temperatures at the Ayrton Senna Circuit. The decision came shortly before the start.
There were earlier problems on Saturday when the sprint race was delayed by more than an hour after a large hole was discovered near the starting line and emergency repairs were carried out.
This weekend also marked MotoGP's return to Brazil for the first time since 2004.
What comes next
- The championship now moves to North America.
- The next event is the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, scheduled for March 27 to 29.
