A crossover built for people who take furnishing seriously
Pokemon Pokopia is joining forces with IKEA for a real-world and in-game collaboration that mixes virtual decorating with actual store displays. The partnership is part of IKEA Japan’s 20th anniversary celebration, because apparently the next logical step after selling furniture is making sure your favorite Pokemon can help arrange it.
The basic idea is simple enough: players can build their dream home in the game, and visitors can see that same concept brought to life in IKEA stores across Japan.
IKEA Island is coming to Pokemon Pokopia
At the center of the event is a new in-game location called IKEA Island, which will be added to Pokemon Pokopia. Players will be able to visit areas inspired by Pikachu and Snorlax, and unlock themed rooms created by IKEA interior designers.
Those rooms are not staying digital. IKEA is also recreating them inside its physical stores in Japan so customers can walk through the Pokemon-inspired setups in person.
Two rooms, two very different moods
Each space reflects its in-game version:
- The Pikachu room uses bright, energetic design and forest-style motifs.
- The Snorlax room leans into comfort, sleep, and a more relaxed layout.
In other words, one room says “let’s get things done,” and the other says “perhaps later.”
Store events, prizes, and the restaurant getting in on it too
The crossover runs from April 1 to May 10, while the in-game IKEA Island will remain available until June 30.
IKEA stores across Japan will also host extra Pokemon activities during the event. A stamp rally begins on April 18, inviting visitors to find Pokemon around the store and collect seven stamps while picking up a bit of IKEA trivia along the way.
Shoppers who spend ¥5,000 or more, about $31, can receive limited-edition stickers and enter a prize draw. The prizes include a ¥100,000 IKEA gift card, roughly $630, plus original collaboration merchandise.
The restaurant is joining the effort too, with Pokemon-themed cake decorations and photo spots appearing at select locations during the event period.
Pokemon has never exactly been shy about real-world tie-ins, from airline partnerships with themed planes to themed wedding rings. Still, this one may be the most practical for fans who have been waiting to decorate their lives with a bit more Pikachu and a lot more shelving.
