Season V26 Act Two shuffled VALORANT's limited-time modes and removed Skirmish 2v2, swapping in a new mode called Knockout. Players made it clear they missed the tiny, intense duo fights. Riot Games listened and announced Skirmish 2v2 is returning.

When it returns

Riot announced the return on March 18. Skirmish 2v2 went live on March 19, following the launch of Patch 12.05. The rollout happened in the morning Pacific Time, which usually means roughly late morning Central Time for most US players.

Why Riot brought it back

Riot said they test different limited-time modes to see what sticks. Skirmish stood out in player feedback and play numbers, so the company decided to bring it back. In short, it was popular and people kept playing it.

How Skirmish 2v2 works

Skirmish 2v2 is exactly what it sounds like: two players per side in short, fast aim duels. You can queue solo and get paired with a random teammate, or bring a friend and play together. The rounds are quick and focused on raw shooting and positioning, which makes Skirmish useful for practice or a warmup before diving into Competitive matches.

What Patch 12.05 added

Patch 12.05 introduced Knockout, a mode that feels like Team Deathmatch but nudges teams toward coordinated play. Key points:

  • Team-focused respawns: When you eliminate an enemy, fallen teammates respawn.
  • Trading matters: The system rewards coordinated trades rather than lone wolf plays.
  • Map mechanics: A moving wall in the middle of the map stops teams from simply running through and ending fights in seconds.

Why you should care

Between Skirmish and Knockout you have two quick ways to work on aim, movement, and team awareness without the stress of ranked. One is pure 1v1 and 2v2 aim practice, the other pushes coordination and trading. Both are good for improving fundamentals or just blowing off steam.

Short version: Riot removed Skirmish, players complained by playing and talking, and Riot put it back. Now you have both Skirmish and Knockout to choose from depending on whether you want pure aim practice or a team-focused arcade match.
