"[Tech companies] need some PR help because people think that if a data center goes in, their electricity prices are going to go up," Trump said during the event, acknowledging the public anxiety. "Some centers were rejected by communities for that and now I think it's going to be the opposite."
The pledge, formalized in a presidential proclamation, commits these companies to a core principle: they will be responsible for the new power generation and infrastructure needed to fuel their AI data centers. In simpler terms, if a tech giant builds a massive server farm, it promises to cover the costs of the extra electricity and grid upgrades required, rather than passing those expenses onto local residents through higher utility rates.

This ambition, however, comes with controversy. The NAACP has already threatened to sue xAI twice over pollution from temporary gas turbines it installed in those states to power its data centers, a reminder that the environmental and social impact of this energy rush remains a live wire.
