A strong start for the final season
The Boys season 5 has plenty of pressure on it. It is the show’s last run, which means expectations are already doing laps around the room before the episodes even air. Still, the early critical response suggests the series may actually land its ending instead of tripping over it in full view of everyone.
At the time of writing, the final season holds a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on critic reviews. That is an unusually strong place for any show to begin its farewell tour, and even more so for a series with the kind of reputation that makes people brace for disappointment the moment “final season” is mentioned.
To be fair, critics and audiences do not always agree, because apparently television is allowed to remain complicated. But an early score this high is still a welcome sign for viewers hoping The Boys can dodge the increasingly familiar curse of the underwhelming series finale.
For now, the message is simple: the show’s last chapter is off to a very good start, and it has given fans one more reason to pay attention when the ending arrives.
