Macron pushes back after Trump’s remarks

French President Emmanuel Macron reacted sharply on Thursday to comments Donald Trump made the day before during a private lunch, where the U.S. president said the French leader is "treated extremely badly by his wife... he's still recovering from the punch he took to the jaw."

Macron said the remarks were "neither elegant nor worthy" of his office. Not exactly the diplomatic language exchange anyone was hoping for, but here we are.

Trump also used the same lunch to criticize NATO allies. He said he had asked the French head of state for military support in the Gulf and, imitating Macron with a French accent, quoted him as replying: "No, no, no... we can't do that, Donald. We can do that once the war is won."
