Jessica Jones returns, and the showrunner is hyped
Dario Scardapane, showrunner on Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, says Jessica Jones’ arrival in the new episodes is a real high point. That is not small praise, since the season already starts with Matt Murdock at the center of a full blown resistance against Mayor Fisk, played by Vincent D'Onofrio.
What the season looks like
- Matt Murdock leads a resistance movement against Mayor Fisk, who has tightened control over New York.
- Fisk uses the Anti-Vigilante Task Force to detain and silence people who speak out.
- There has been fan chatter about other heroes showing up, such as Luke Cage and Iron Fist, and other Internet theories.
Jessica Jones is confirmed
Krysten Ritter will be back as Jessica Jones. Scardapane and executive producer Sana Amanat talked about bringing her into the story, and how they treated the fact that it has been years since she and Matt shared the screen during The Defenders on Netflix.
Amanat said the creative team wanted to acknowledge that time has passed, and to show a new version of Jessica while still celebrating the reunion. She noted that seeing the two of them in action together feels true to the comics, and that even simple moments of them hanging out and chatting can look like a comic book cover.
Scardapane added that writing their banter was a lot of fun. He reminded fans of the sharp exchanges from The Defenders, and said that when Jessica shows up in this season, it is meant to be a special moment that gives viewers a genuine smile.
What to expect
Expect sparks, fight scenes, and the kind of interplay that made the pair memorable before. The showrunner framed her return as a narrative peak, a scene designed to reward longtime fans and to push the plot forward as Matt and allies take on Fisk’s tightening grip on the city.
While we wait to see exactly how Jessica and Daredevil confront Mayor Fisk, the creative team is clearly treating her comeback as both a character moment and a crowd-pleaser.
