UEFA has officially changed the start time for the Champions League final on Saturday 30 May 2026 at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. The match will kick off at 18:00 rather than the 21:00 slot used in recent seasons. The move is aimed at making the day easier for fans, teams and the host city, especially when it comes to travel and event planning.

Who is still in the running

Several big clubs remain contenders for the two final spots. Among those still in the competition are:

  • Arsenal
  • Real Madrid
  • Sporting
  • Barcelona
  • Paris Saint-Germain
  • Liverpool
  • Atletico Madrid

What else stays the same

Competition rules will not change because of the new kickoff time. If the match is tied after 90 minutes, teams will play two extra periods of 15 minutes each. If the score is still level after extra time, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout.

About the venue

The final will be held at the Puskas Arena, named after the Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskas. Opened in November 2019 on the site of the former stadium, the venue blends some of the old brick walls with modern metal design elements. It seats about 67,000 spectators and is considered one of Europe’s notable modern stadiums. This will be the first time the Champions League final takes place in Budapest. The city did host the Europa League final in 2023 between Roma and Sevilla.

Pre-match entertainment

Before the kickoff, the American rock band The Killers will perform. They also took part in a promotional short film titled The Race Begins alongside David Beckham, which has raised expectations for the event’s show elements.

Overall, the earlier start is a practical change intended to improve the matchday experience without altering how the game itself is decided.
