Blizzard opens the spoiler window, just a little
If seeing even a fragment of a story before launch counts as a spoiler in your house, you may want to look away. Blizzard has posted an early in-game cutscene from the upcoming Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred expansion, which arrives on April 28.
“Walk the path of faith and fire as Queen Adreona stands beside Akarat, their alliance forged in defiance of encroaching darkness. But devotion is a fragile thing, and unseen forces twist the truth, lurking just beyond the light. Will you follow… or be led astray?”
The scene does not make it especially clear where it falls in the expansion’s timeline, though it is probably safe to assume this is near the start of the story campaign. Blizzard is not exactly handing out a full synopsis here, but the cutscene does establish the tone: faith, danger, and the sort of mystery that tends to go badly for someone.
A second video shifts the focus to Neyrelle
For players who would rather avoid the cutscene altogether, Blizzard also released a lore video about Neyrelle, the Horadric scholar. It is more restrained in what it gives away, while still tying her into the broader story of the April 28 expansion.
So, depending on how spoiler-averse you are, Blizzard has offered either a tempting preview or a reason to sit very still and wait for launch day.
