HBO has released the first teaser for its long-awaited Harry Potter TV series, giving viewers a peek at the new cast, the Hogwarts sets, and the shows official launch date. Yes, the trilogy of Daniel Radcliffe era nostalgia is getting a TV retelling, and it starts streaming on Christmas Day 2026.
Who is playing the new trio?
The series centers on a fresh trio of young actors taking on the iconic roles. The casting choices were revealed with the teaser and accompanying promotional images.
- Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
- Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
- Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
Supporting cast highlights
- John Lithgow plays Professor Dumbledore
- Janet McTeer appears as Professor McGonagall
- Nick Frost is Hagrid
- Paapa Essiedu takes the role of Professor Severus Snape, a casting choice that drew significant backlash and online abuse
What the teaser shows
The teaser opens with a young Harry facing bullying at a nonmagical school while Aunt Petunia, played by Bel Powley, urges him to "act like a normal boy." From that moment we move to Hagrids arrival and Harrys first steps toward Hogwarts. The school interiors and the uniforms in the footage look familiar to fans of the films, though the series aims to strike a balance between honoring what came before and telling the story in its own way.
How the series will be structured
HBO plans a long-term approach: a 10-year roadmap that adapts each of the original books across individual seasons. That means each book should get its own season-length treatment, giving the story more room to breathe than the films had.
Where and when it was filmed
Production has been taking place at Leavesden Studios in London since July 2025. Fans had already spotted bits of the set through mapping data and drone footage, but the series remained mostly under wraps until this teaser arrived.
Release date
The trailer confirms the show will begin streaming on Christmas Day, 2026. Thats slightly earlier than some previous reports that suggested a 2027 start.
For now the teaser gives a first taste rather than the full meal. Expect more footage, casting details, and behind the scenes information as the series moves closer to its holiday premiere.
