Yes, it is a Supernatural reunion, but do not expect handshakes and holiday cards. Creator and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has brought Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins into Season 5, and he says they are playing characters you will not want to invite over for dinner.
When they appear and what to expect
Padalecki and Collins arrive in Episode 5 of Season 5. Their exact character names and backstories are being kept under wraps, but Kripke was blunt about the vibe.
Kripke’s take
Kripke said, "They show up in Episode 5. What I love about what they’re doing is they’re just such douchebags. It’s great." He added that while Soldier Boy is no picnic either, Padalecki and Collins are "just really not morally upstanding dudes. It’s a blast to watch them play that. It was just so much fun."
Ackles and the reunion energy
Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy and has worked with Kripke since the Supernatural days, admitted he was cautious at first. He said, "I was told that there was the possibility of it happening, and I was like, 'I think it sounds awesome as long as it makes sense.'"
Ackles later praised how it played out, saying Kripke found a way to "weave them in there and make it outrageous and make it something special. It propels the story, it propels the characters."
Kripke’s casting habit
Kripke has a history of tapping actors from his earlier show. He brought Jensen Ackles into The Boys as Soldier Boy, and has also used other Supernatural alumni over the years, including:
- Nathan Mitchell
- Jim Beaver
- Alvina August
- Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Padalecki and Collins add to that list, though their roles remain unnamed for now.
When to tune in
The Boys returns to Prime Video on April 8. If you like reunions that lean toward morally questionable chaos, Episode 5 looks like the one to watch.
