What the video shows

New footage captures Shia LaBeouf in a tense exchange with police outside his New Orleans residence early Friday morning. He speaks urgently to officers, points out a security camera on his house, and shows them his phone while insisting he is a target and an "easy target."

The moments that stand out

  • At one point he lifts his shirt and appears to make the sign of the cross.

  • He paces and becomes increasingly agitated, raising his voice as the interaction continues.

  • He shouts that he has a child, saying, "I have a f***ing three-year-old!"

  • He refers to past legal trouble, yelling that he has been "sitting in jail for f***ing four months for punching a man."

  • The video later shows him sitting in the street, distraught, shouting, "What are you talking about?! That’s why I never call you," then breaking down in tears.

  • After that, officers drive away and he is left alone and emotional.

His attitude toward officers

Throughout the footage he repeatedly tells officers he does not trust them. At times he seems to be explaining evidence or asking them to check his home camera, and at other moments he is visibly upset and vocal about how recent events have affected him.

Background on recent incidents

This confrontation comes after a string of incidents earlier this year. Last month he was arrested and charged with battery after an altercation outside a New Orleans bar during Mardi Gras. Authorities say he used homophobic slurs and struck multiple people.

About two weeks after that arrest, he was taken into custody again and hit with an additional misdemeanor count of simple battery.

What to take away

The video paints a picture of a man who is both angry and upset, confronting police while referencing his family and his legal struggles. Officers eventually leave the scene, and the encounter ends with LaBeouf alone and in tears.
