Tiger Woods pauses his golf career after Florida crash

WASHINGTON, April 1, 2026, 10:01

Tiger Woods said he is stepping away from golf to enter a detoxification center after being involved in a car accident in Florida and facing a charge of driving under the influence of substances.

The golf star made the announcement in a statement posted on social media just hours after pleading not guilty. "This is a necessary step to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery," Woods said.

He added: "I am committed to taking all the time I need to return in a better condition: healthier, stronger and more focused, both personally and professionally."

Because apparently even a global sports icon occasionally has to deal with consequences before the next tee time.
