Privacy comes first, apparently
Tiger Woods is reportedly not interested in hiring a private driver, even with the questions swirling around his recent DUI arrest. According to People, an anonymous source says privacy is the main reason. Woods allegedly "doesn't want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing."
The same source says the legendary golfer believes he is perfectly capable of driving on his own. That confidence may sound familiar to anyone who has followed the story of his very public run-ins with the law. The insider also says Woods "despises public scrutiny," which is a notable stance for someone who has received plenty of it lately.
Why the scrutiny is there
The report lands after Woods was arrested on Friday in Jupiter, Florida. Authorities said he was impaired while speeding on a two-lane road, clipped the back of a pickup truck hauling a trailer, and then flipped his SUV.
According to the Martin County Sheriff's Department, Woods underwent a series of field sobriety tests at the scene and failed them. He was then taken into custody.
Woods later posed for a mugshot, and yes, he did not exactly look thrilled about the experience. So far, he has not publicly commented on the incident.
The latest report does not exactly solve the central question of whether a driver might be a useful idea here, but it does at least offer a reason: privacy, which is a bold choice when the alternative involves headlines, arrest reports, and a mugshot.
