Bethesda Game Studios quietly brought some creators in for a sneak peek at what they are calling an overhaul for Starfield. Yes, select previews again, because of course. Fans have been waiting to learn what’s next for the space RPG, and this looks like the first proper breadcrumb.
What to expect next week
Todd Howard has already tried to cool wild expectations. This is not Starfield 2.0. Instead, the studio hints the news will likely focus on Terran Armada, which many believe is the name of the game’s second expansion, plus a big update aimed at players who already enjoy the game.
In a recent post, Bethesda joked about Todd’s so-called visionary powers, then added that they "will have more to share next week." Translation: something official is imminent.
Terran Armada, the long-lost expansion
Terran Armada was teased last year, and fans have been left mostly guessing ever since. Before Starfield launched, Bethesda had promised one major expansion each year. The first expansion, Shattered Space, was public knowledge before launch, but the second expansion has been notably quiet and is overdue.
So far we mostly have the rumored name and a lot of waiting. That could change with next week’s update.
If you disliked Starfield, don’t expect a miracle
Todd Howard has been blunt about who the update is for. If the base game did not click for you, the incoming oversized update is not designed to make you love it. Instead, it aims to deepen the experience for players who already liked Starfield and want more of it.
PS5 launch, a possible second wind
Starfield is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 next month, opening the game to a much larger audience. That launch, combined with a strong expansion reveal and substance in the promised update, could revive interest and bring players back.
Critics and some players feel the game has been starved of meaningful updates for too long. If Bethesda’s next announcements deliver, this could be the moment Starfield turns a corner.
