Todd Howard confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is now the main focus for Bethesda. With major work on Starfield completed, the studio is shifting resources so that most of the building is working on the fantasy sequel.
Starfield work mostly finished, studio pivots
On March 17 Bethesda announced Starfield would arrive on PS5 with significant updates and a final expansion. With that work behind them, the studio is moving attention to the next big thing in its fantasy series.
Most of Bethesda is on The Elder Scrolls 6
Howard was direct. He said, in his words, that "the majority of this building is working on The Elder Scrolls 6." He added that returning to the Elder Scrolls world feels great and that the project is very different from Starfield and Fallout.
How long has this been coming?
The sequel was revealed eight years ago, and it has been 15 years since Skyrim launched. In the interim, Bethesda and its partners released and published a long list of titles, including:
- Fallout 76
- Starfield
- The Oblivion remaster
- Multiple Wolfenstein games
- Rage 2
- Doom Eternal and Doom The Dark Ages
- Deathloop
- Ghostwire: Tokyo
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Redfall
- An Indiana Jones title
Don’t expect a release date yet
All this confirms is that production is ramping up. There are still no release details. The game could be several years away and may well target next-generation hardware.
Where Bethesda stands
Howard said the studio feels it is in a good place with its major franchises. For fans, the takeaway is simple: The Elder Scrolls 6 is now the priority. More information will come when Bethesda is ready to share it.
